Book club and darts at Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home

Book club

On Saturday 25 June we held another of our book club sessions at Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home.

We read three short stories:

  • The puppy and the kitten‘ about someone adopting from an animal shelter.
  • A poem called ‘At the zoo‘ and what animals are seen.
  • Blanket adventure‘ about a boy who uses his imagination and makes his blanket into all sorts of things.

Our residents enjoyed Sallie from our Recreation and Well-Being Team reading to them and after each story she asked questions to see what they enjoyed and remembered.

Darts

We also had a great day of darts! We have some good players at our Home and they tried very hard, with some excellent shots!

Card games

Over the weekend we played some fun games of cards.

We enjoyed trying ‘Old maid‘ which is like ‘Pairs’ – you have to deal out cards and see if you can pair them.

The other game was ‘Eights‘ in which you deal out the cards and have to try and get rid of all your cards first to win. If you get an eight, you can use it as a trump card.

Playing cards is such a great way to have fun and socialise, and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Bowls

On Sunday 26 June we organised several games of bowls, which are always popular with our residents, especially with prizes to be won!

Afterwards, we asked what music everyone would like to listen to and Country and Western style was chosen, so we put on Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers – what a classic!
