Knitted cakes and fabulous flowers at Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home

Our residents at Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home enjoyed a fun-filled week last week, culminating with a poignant two minute silence on Remembrance Sunday.

Making cakes and poppies for Remembrance Sunday

In the lead up to Sunday’s service, a group of our residents helped make cakes to enjoy in the afternoon. We gave all our residents a poppy to wear and our lady Joyce enjoyed a zoom call with her family. Remembrance Sunday was significant for all our residents – even more so for Joyce because she used to be in the army.

Mini manicures, movies and make-overs

While our lady Rene had her nails filed and painted, we had a fantastic chat about our children and holidays. Rene said, “It was lovely to have a chat and a laugh.”

Our gentlemen Malcom enjoyed a movie called ‘The Tuskegee Airmen’ – based on the exploits of an actual groundbreaking unit, the first African-American combat pilots in the United States Army Air Corps, that fought in World War II. Malcom said, “It was the best film I have ever seen and it brought back memories.”

Jean was delighted to have her hair done as you can tell from her big smile! And doesn’t she look posh!? Our lady Adrianne went out into the garden for a walk then sat in the sunshine; she said she felt “completely refreshed”.

Fabulous flowers

Our lady Vera loves a spot of flower arranging, often saying she “loves doing them” as it reminds her of her wedding day. Whilst she sat with Julie (Recreation and Well-Being) and arranged multicoloured roses, they reminisced on happy memories of her special day.

Knitting circle treats

We were very lucky to be asked by a local knitting circle if we would like anything knitted  for our lovely Home. Julie (Recreation and Well-Being) asked for these tempting treats to be made for our residents with Dementia and they really put a smile on our residents’ faces.

Julie said, “Don’t they make the Home look amazing and fun! If only there was such a thing as a donut tree – I would certainly have to buy larger clothes!”
