Care Home on Canvey Island
A stunning location
Our Home is located on the enviable tip of Silverpoint Marine in the coastal town of Canvey Island and has far-reaching, scenic views across the Thames estuary and the marina itself.
With three lounges and two dining areas, our residents have the freedom and space to relax or join in with activities, whilst taking in the wonderful views that surround us. Our décor is modern and bright with a nautical theme throughout the Home and bedrooms are spacious and homely.
Our secluded garden is a real sunspot, with seating areas perfect for enjoying some al fresco dining or spending time with family and friends. For those who enjoy a spot of gardening, plants and herbs are easy to tend to and create a beautiful backdrop. In the summer months we hold open days and summer fetes to bring everyone together to soak up the sun with food, drinks and entertainment.
Home from home
When residents come to stay with us, we encourage them and their families to bring personal items for their room; special photographs, ornaments or pieces of furniture – which help to create a familiar, home-from-home environment. Our Maintenance and Housekeeping Teams are also on hand to discuss colour schemes and furnishings; no job is too big or too small to help residents settle right in.
Around the Home residents can enjoy browsing through our bookshelves, reminiscing at our wall of ‘local history’ and celebrity ‘hall of fame’ or enjoying a tipple in our bar area whilst watching the boats sail by.
Our Registered Manager is supported by a highly trained and loyal team, some of whom have been onboard for over 20 years. All staff have an important role to play in caring and supporting our residents and providing the best person-centred care each day.
Resident of the Day
Our Resident of the Day initiative helps each member of the team understand our residents’ likes, dislikes and the things that really make a difference to them. All staff, whether it’s our Carers, Cooks, Housekeepers or Maintenance Team, find out what’s important to each person and give them the opportunity to select their favourite meal for Chef to prepare, choose an activity they’d like to do or add any special touches to their room. Family members are invited to be part of these reviews and we always give feedback when their loved one has been Resident of the Day.
Passionate about Food
Mealtimes are a key part of daily life at Silverpoint Court and a good opportunity to socialise. With a choice of dining areas, our residents can choose how and where to dine, select from a varied menu and relax with a glass of wine or a soft drink from the beverage trolley or bar.
Our Catering Team are passionate about providing delicious home-cooked meals that cater for each person’s preferences and our residents are always involved in planning menus.
We know that good nutrition supports good health and well-being, and Nellsar is one of the first Care Home groups to employ a dedicated Nutrition and Wellness Manager, Leni Wood, and hold regular Chef Masterclasses designed to support and coach our Catering Team to help develop their skills and share creativity.

A shared Nellsar culture
As part of a group of Care Homes, we are extremely proud of our caring, supportive culture which embodies empathy, equity, professionalism and continuous improvement. Our shared values focus on the individual – from residents to team members – creating an inclusive environment with both residents and staff teams at the heart of what we do every day.

Recreation and Leisure
We encourage everyone to remain as independent as possible and continue enjoying their hobbies and interests. No two days are the same at Silverpoint, and our Recreation and Well-Being Team plan weekly activities both in and out of the Home. Dominos club is a firm favourite and our weekly coffee mornings create a social time for residents to chat over cake and coffee (complete with a dash of Baileys and a squirt of cream!). We love to get creative with arts and crafts, play games and enjoy some healthy competition with balloon tennis, indoor bowls and bingo.
We welcome a variety of singers, musicians and entertainers to our Home, along with children from the local primary school who sing for us several times a year. Residents love visits from Pet Therapy animals, and family and friends are also welcome to bring their pets along to be made a fuss of.
At special times of the year – Easter, Christmas and VE Day to name just a few – we bring out the decorations, and residents are always made the centre of attention when celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. We never need an excuse for cake and a get together!
Nellsar Care and Cookery Book
Pioneers in the Care Catering industry, the Nellsar Care and Cookery Book celebrates our person-centred care catering and nutritional support. We also share some of our residents’ favourite seasonal recipes and an insight into the wonderful cooking clubs in our Care Homes.
Our residents’ well-being
All areas of our residents’ well-being are cared for and in addition, we are also supported by visiting hairdressers, chiropodists, opticians, GPs, district nurses and external professionals, to ensure that all our residents’ needs are fully met.

Getting out and about
For residents who are able to get out and about (either on their own or with assistance) our seaside location is perfect for trips along the coast, spotting a bargain at the local antiques centre, meeting up with friends at the Salvation Army or choosing some fresh flowers at the garden centre.
For our residents who are able to venture out on their mobility scooters, we have made a secure, purpose-built scooter shed with charging units. It’s wonderful to see some of our ladies and gents head off to take in some sea air, visit the shops or simply enjoy a pint at the local pub.
Please feel free to visit Silverpoint Court at any time to find out more about our Home. Alternatively, call us on 01268 515 564 or email admin.silverpoint@nellsar.com with any questions you may have.

A message from the Manager
Hello. My name is Gay Snowdon and I am the Manager of Silverpoint Court Residential Care Home. I have a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy and when I moved to the UK, I chose to pursue a career in care because that is what I love. With 15 years’ experience of working in the care industry, I first began working as a Care Assistant and worked my way up to Home Manager.
I have an open-door policy and believe that a Home Manager should be available to speak to staff, residents, relatives, friends or any professionals involved in our residents’ care at any time of day. As a Home, we strive to provide the best possible care and we welcome any suggestions to improve our services.
Our Home is located within a quiet residential area of Canvey Island, with lounge areas offering panoramic views overlooking the Thames Estuary and Essex Coastline. We have 33 single rooms – three of which have been renovated to include ensuite facilities.
